Then and Now

Comparing today’s society to back then, so much has changed.  Teen pregnancy has always been a controversial issue, but society now a days is cracking down of the negative views and is actually becoming more and more acceptive. Back in the 90’s, which was when teen pregnancy was just starting to happen a little more, it was heavily looked down upon.  Around this time my mother was actually pregnant with me, go figure.  She was viewed as a disgrace, having a child out of wedlock and even worse still being a child herself.  Its crazy how things change within just a few decades, slowly but surely teen pregnancy’s outlook is changing from negative to almost positive.

Actually looking at it, time has changed a lot.  Something that was one hidden or covered up is now being embraced!  I believe that society is giving teens who are pregnant more confidence in being happy with the skin they’re in more than ever.  There are so many groups and things teenage mothers can be involved in compared to years ago, such as MOPS which is a support group especially for teenage mothers to help them with obstacles they may face, teaching them to be more self sufficient, and in hopes prepare teens for their long road of parenthood.  Now there are many resources being offered in order to help, which was something that back then, people weren’t willing to help out as much.  So even though teen pregnancy isn’t necessarily a good thing, today’s society is more understanding and more willing to help out than before.

Teens don’t have to feel alone, or helpless when they happen to become pregnant now because America actually reaches out to teenage mothers.  I don't believe that teen pregnancy will ever be fully accepted, but I do believe it is more tolerated.  Learning to tolerate and accept things is so much better than having a pre-deceived opinion.  Time has changed, and instead of living in the past, if people tried to accept or at least put up with society, then we wouldn't have as many issues.  Besides, society won’t revert back to how it used to be.
